About Me

Preferred name: Anurag, my middle name

Pronouns: they/them or she/her

I was born and raised in the United Kingdom, to an Atheist-Bengali family. I was the youngest of three siblings. As a teenager I moved to the U.S. with my parents while my siblings stayed in England. I have been moving into my queer identity, and inviting others in along the way, since I was 17 years old. I have been finding my place in Islam since I was 22 years old. I am an artist and therapist, with a background in social work and community organizing. I identify as an anti-Zionist abolitionist.

My clinical approach:

I aspire to use an intersectional feminist model and anti-oppression/anti-colonial framework for therapy largely because of my own experiences of privilege and oppression. I work to be attentive to both the privileges and oppressions that come along with my various identities, and enjoy working with people who are also on this journey. My experiences have reinforced my commitment to continually work on decolonizing my mind and supporting the people I work with in doing the same.

I strive to be a trauma-informed therapist, who takes into account the various types of trauma that we experience throughout our lives and how that may impact daily experiences, relationships, and therapy. I will invite us to consider interpersonal traumas as well as systemic injustices and how these manifest in our lives. This may also manifest in us as generational and ancestral trauma.

I am finding that using an intersectional feminist model channels my values. I also use the terms “anti-oppressive” and “anti-colonial” to share the therapeutic dynamic I strive for. This takes into account the inherent flaws of traditional “western” psychotherapy models. I also find aspects of Internal Family Systems and Narrative Therapy to be empowering and grounding for people dealing with trauma and disempowerment.
